Map Description         : 
Two small levels especially good for 1on1. Quite a unique mix for Quake3, dome/temple architecture, rusty-tech textures mixed in with some gothic and terrain.

I decided to make a Q3 level in an effort to learn Q3Radiant.
The first one, Abhorrent Bone, took less than two days to make, and with no planning and the fact that I was learning as I went, I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Although I got totally off course with the original idea in my head. I got so carried away with how easy it was to make good terrain that I overdid it. So I whipped up a second level, Animal Tusk. I quite like the improved colours and textures. It is a little larger, and probably looks and plays just as well.
But because they were both so small and quite similar I thought I would put them in the same pack.

		lichtwärts (english: 'in light direction') is not built

This is the high-demanding version of Reverberation that won the 2nd Prize at the
Quake3Stuff mapping competition. (1. July - 31. August - 2000)

This map is not designed for campers :). You won't find that many places to hide out in
more than 5 seconds! I know this map takes a pretty heavy machine to run properly, but I
have done what I could. I even spend 4 days re-designing big parts of the architecture to
make the map less detailed. (As soon as I find out it didn't run as well on many computer
:-(. )
But you can't always make maps to suit yesterdays computers! and it will run fine on most
computers if you just lower your graphic settings a little.
If anyone has any suggestions to increase the frame rate I would be very pleased if they
send it to me. This is my second Q3A map and any feedback is highly appreciated!!

The map uses alot of curves, so if you have problems with the framerate, try changing

the doors...I have NO idea why this happens, and it seems only yo be a problem on some systems.

This is my entry for Sock and Nunuks Geometric Challenge 2.
It is a combination of a normal quake-map and the experimentation with the most extreme
expression of an architectural style my head has crackled with in the last few months,
which I have dubbed Neorganic - hence the title. It is a style that grows on its own with
metaphors suddenly appearing in places never planned for. Hopefully the realistic version
will sometime stand among the buildings of distant earth,
as soon as I finish architecture school, that is... ;)
Hope you like it as much as me and my "inmates" does.

------------Tech-Comments------------------

High r_speeds you say? Due to the design of the map the r_speeds can be changed fluidly.
The peaks around 30k - which does perform a lot better than usual - can easily be changed
to a meeker 12k with almost good average speeds ;)
A simple change of the subdivisionlevel by shifting to low geometry settings,
solves this in a jiffy.
But if you have the system, go for the high setting - it looks incredible smooth :)

As for the bots, it took me 3 days just to get the bot-file compile-able,

------------Comments------------------

The map is pretty dark in places, and it is very different how dark it is on
different computers. I have done alot to make the map lighter with the same dark
atmosphere, but if you still have trouple I suggest setting up the brightness or
even better use vertex lighting. Vertex is off course not as pretty but it works
pretty okay ;)
The bots play okay, but doesn't use the topfloor as much as you might want them to.
Play against humans if you can!

Three years late I've finally gotten round to making a Q3 map...  

The reason is for the geometry competition, and because I fancied a challenge.  After dabbling with Q3R
for.. ouuu.. three years now I've never really been inspired to create a complete map.  However, upon
stumbling upon Sock's egyptian texture set, his Iceflow skybox and a recent version of GTK... finally the
door opened.

Hands Of God (Gods have no thumbs) is the result.  Thing is, would you have noticed if I hadn't told ya?
The reason there's no thumbs is because, as you may realise from seeing the fingers, they were pretty much
impossible to create.  Sure, a 3DS Max model would have done the trick, but the competition asked to try
and stay away from using models as best as possible - it would have been cheating to have done them that way.

As it is, I don't really like GTK for trying organic stuff.  Hands.. Rock.. it's all a bit of a pain in the
ass when compared to Worldcraft (sure, I never actually tried a map like this back in the days of old, but
I did make a hell of a lot of rock..)

Hopefully you can overlook the slight problems (ie, the few tears in the environment) and settle back and
play the map.  It's been tested extensively, and it rocks...

Grazer Station by Johnny Law
Large space-themed CTF map; not the greatest.
Don't jump too high in the center room with the glass.  Ouchies.

Bots are functional in this map, but they're not too keen about a few things.

First of all, there are two types of jumps that they do not understand.

1) The "express elevator" from the basement to the flagroom.

2) The jump from the flagroom to the tower.


I have some ideas about tricking the bots into understanding these jumps to
some extent, but it will require me either learning the .aas file format or
getting my hands on the source code to bspc.  I've been unable to get any
information about id releasing that file format or source code, and I'm tired
of waiting.  So I'm releasing the map as-is.  If at some point in the future
I can improve the bots' behavior on this map, I'll release an add-on pk3 file
with the new .aas file.

Note that bots can still find an exit from every area in the map, and they can
also find an entrance to every area except the tower.  To get into the tower
though, a bot has to spawn there (it can't figure out how to rocket jump up
there).


There are two other bot problems that are even less likely to be fixed.

First, I'm pretty sure that bots don't understand how to get through the tower
trapdoor, although I've seen them push the button.

Second, there are some simple walkway-to-walkway jumps that bots will not do.
For example, they refuse to jump to the flag platform as long as there's a route
to get there without jumping.  Which kinda sucks for the bots offensively.  They
also won't jump to the yellow armor in the flag room lobby (except for rocket
jumps).  I actually figured out a way to restructure the walkways so that they
would make that jump if you commanded them to, but it made the walkways a bit
odd for human players, and bots would still never do it on their own initiative.
Which means of course that bots on the enemy team would never do it at all, as
far as I could tell.  So I un-did the change.  When you're playing with bots,
just consider that yellow armor "yours" I suppose.

Installation		: To install, simply unzip and place mapel4.pk3 in the baseq3 
                       	  directory inside your Quake3: Arena installation. Kick up Q3A 
			  and start a ctf multiplayer server. The map should then show
			  up with the other levelshots.

Additional map info.	: The Idea behind the map was to make it large and yet dead easy to
			  learn and play. I always loved McKinley Base (Quake Classic Threewave 
			  ctf) because of its fast gameplay. I found Q3CTF1 had much of the 
			  same thing. Hopefully this map will deliver some of that feeling but
			  with the posibility to cram in a much larger number of players. As
			  matter of fact you need an absolute minimum of 4+4 to give it justice
			  but I think the map could hold as much as a 8+8.

Wont-dos		: * Actually the middle area should be scaled down a bit to negotiate
			    with the Q3A engines problem with large outdoor areas.

			  * The bases exterior should need some more work. The front looks a bit
			    flat and you can't see any roof or something like that. I was thinking
			    about building it into a mountain or something but a: I'm lazy, 
			    b: I think it would kill the FPS totally in the middle area.

Instructions for using the Emerald Skybox
----------------------------------------

** You must have installed the Q3 editor tools first **


1. Extract the zip at in the BASEQ3 directory.
   The zip file has all the directory structure in
   place ready for the above location.
   
2. Goto the SCRIPTS sub-directory under the BASEQ3
   directory and find the following 
   file :- SHADERLIST.TXT.
   
3. Open this file up in a text editor and add the
   following line at the bottom of the file.
   
   EMERALD
   
4. Close the file and open Q3Radiant and you should
   find on the texture menu the EMERALD subdirectory.
   
5. Choose the EMERALD subdirectory and you should find
   the sky texture ready for use.
   
6. If the editor displays 2 textures use the one
   called EMERALD_SKYBOX. The other one is just so
   that you have something to remind you of what
   you are inserting into your map.

Enviroment		: A small and fast, halfopen, space/base level.
Construction		: A completely new design. I found ways to make a spiral in 24 steps round,
			  using a 12 sided pipe template. So, in this level I've made two jumppads
			  and oppossed to it, two player catchers made out of 12 sided pipes,
			  connected to these pipe spiral segments. This enables fast escapes from the deck and
			  returning to where the action is. Although this level looks open, there surtainly
			  are moments of speculating where the opponent is. Situations are changing very
			  fast in this map. I hope you have fun and like it!
Known Bugs		: -Sometimes a player is slightly blocked for a millisecond at some pipes-brush
			  connections.This bug must be somewhere in the bsp compiler or in the Q3A engine
			  and the collision detection or something I don't know. All brushes are perfectly
			  aligned to the grid. Anyway, it doesn't bother the gameplay too much.
			  -Bots refuse to take the deck-pipecatcher jumppads. I tryed to solve this with
			  bot_roaming entities with increasing weight, but quit doing so because the bots
			  are roaming the rest of map pretty well and give excellent resistance.

 Thanks to Pete Parisi and kiltron for their excellent custom textures.

 I've converted my arena from the first m3a multi-arena into this little FFA/1v1/2v2 map. I was worried that the map would be too small, but it seems to have turned out ok.  

 The look of the map has changed a bit from the RA3 version, as has the layout, but it's still very similar, and still quite small. Not knowing where the other players are should be a rare occurrence. 

 Configured for 4 players in FFA, things can get a little wild. I've included two clips of each kind of ammo, except for the railgun, which has one clip.

Map Info:  This map was pretty much built in 2 sittings but it took a while to get lighting and bots to work right. I've got bots do to pretty much everything but grab the quad.  I wanted this map to be quick access to where ever you want to go.  It really is.  The megahealth is hard to get because there's 3 different jumppads for access.  There is a secret(hint loading screen) that changes the whole gameplay.  Find if you wish.  I may release a Team Arena version depending if anyone thinks this map is any good. Let me know what you think!
